PATHOGENIC AND NON PATHOGENIC MICRO ORGANISMS.

Pathogenic micro organisms are those that can cause diseases in humans, animals and also in plants, where as non pathogenic are not able to cause any disease symptom. Some of the micro organisms which cause diseases are related to fungi, bacteria, viruses, viroids, prions, mycoplasmas, spiroplasmas and rickettesia like organisms. The emphasis was given to pathogenic and non pathogenic bacteria. Some of the pathogenic bacteria are Agrobacterium, Leifsonia, Pectobacterium, Pseudomonas, Ralstonia, Xanthomonas, and Xylella.

Description of Xanthomonas Xanthomonas can cause wilts, softrots and canckers in many of the commercial and field crops like apple, citrus, sugarcance, potatoes, paddy etc. The phylogenetic classification of Xanthomonas was shown in the table. Most of the plant pathogenic bacteria are gram negative bacteria. The pathogen city of Gram-negative bacteria is associated with certain components of Gram-negative cell walls like lipopolysaccharide.

Xanthomonas is a Gram-negative, flagellate, rod-shaped, bacteria. It enters the host plant with the help of flagella. Main characters of gram negative bacteria are presence of cytoplasmic membrane, very thin peptidoglycon layer, lipopolysaccharides and porins in outer membrane, not sporulate.
Lactobacillus is a non pathogenic bacterium which is commonly found in milk. Lactobacilli are called as lactic acid bacteria, and derive almost all of their energy from the conversion of glucose to lactate during fermentation. Through this process 85-90 of the sugar converted to lactic acid. They generate Adenosine Tri Phosphate by non-oxidative substrate-level phosphorylation.

Generally two groups of lactogeneic bacteria are found in the nature.
Description of Lactobacillus Lactobacilli are non-motile, non-spore farming, anaerobic or microphilic, rods or cocci. They are symbiotic and are found in the gut flora in humans. Gram-positive and fermentative bacteria generally straight, can also forms into chains of varying lengths. This bacterium was mostly found in the air and usually contaminates the milk by invading it. The phylogenetic classification was discussed above. Main character of grampositive bacteria are

Cell wall structure consists of peptidoglycans, polysaccharides and teichoic acids.
Various species of Lactobacillus are used for the production of sour milks, cheeses, and yogurt commercially.
